Moregnano, Petritoli Moregnano area located in the southern most province of the Marche, just 18km from the sea on a high hill, about 360m above sea level. Around it is a stunning sea view, the Monte Sibillini, hills, villages on hilltop towns. The fortified town Moregnano, most probably of Roman origin, given the numerous archaeological finds, was first in documents named in the XI century in the possession of the bishop Ugone in Fermo and is over 800 years old and completely intact preserved. In the vicinity are gems of coastal towns like Porto San Giorgio, Pedaso, Cupra Marittima, Grottammare, Porto d’Ascoli but San Benedetto del Tronto with 45,000 inhabitants. Moregnano lie north of the medieval towns of Macerata and Ancona (90km) and other great town centres such as Fermo, Cingoli, Loreto, Jesi and Osimo. Further south lies the provincial capital of Ascoli Piceno.

Location

Marche was long plagued by the warring princes and robber bands. To be able to defend the towns and villages they were exclusively built on hilltops. The lovely Moregnano is on top of a hill and is almost completely surrounded by city walls. Casa di Mura Cinta is the last house of the ancient fortress of Moregnano and on the quiet south-east side. Below the house are on three sides the slopes of the hill, creating a panoramic view of surrounding hills, other hilltop towns, mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Moregnano in terms of supply is depending on the nearby Petritoli (2km) and is easily accessible in summer and winter.
